# We Sell Fish the Way We'd Want Them Sold to Us.

Gulf Coast Aquatics opened on Bee Ridge Road in 2019. The store exists because Marcus Chen got tired of watching fish die in customers' homes after years managing aquarium departments at big-box retailers.

We do four things differently. We quarantine every fish for two weeks before sale. We tell customers when a fish won't work for their tank, even when it costs us a sale. We carry the brands we use at home. And we give honest, free advice, including water testing, in-store consultation, and stocking review.

Marcus has been keeping fish for over 25 years. Mixed reef and a planted Apistogramma biotope at home. Before opening Gulf Coast Aquatics he managed aquarium departments at big-box retailers, and the experience is what made him open his own shop.

"At the chain stores, I'd watch customers buy fish that were going to die in their tanks. Different incompatible species. New tanks that hadn't cycled. Bettas in 1-gallon bowls. The training there was to make the sale and move on. I couldn't do it. Gulf Coast exists so we can give the advice that keeps fish alive, even when it means losing a sale."

We will not sell you fish that won't work together. Bring a photo of your tank and we'll talk through what works. We've turned down plenty of sales for this.

### Free Water Testing

Every visit, no purchase required. Drop a 100ml sample. We test ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, KH, phosphate, plus salinity for saltwater. Results in 10 minutes.

### Best Coral Selection on the Suncoast

Soft, LPS and SPS frags. Every coral dipped on arrival, observed for 1+ weeks before sale. Display reefs lit on AI Hydra and Kessil so you see colors under real lighting.
